Manning Uses Broadcast Media to Make a Difference in the World
Canyon Lake California News Press Release
Danville, CA (PRWEB) April 3, 2007
Catholics@Work, a fellowship of individuals who explore how to actively live one’s values in the workplace, (http://www.catholicsatwork.org), today announced its April 2007 breakfast meeting will feature Father Michael Manning, SVD, founder of Wordnet Productions. Fr. Manning is a Catholic priest, whose ministry focuses on leveraging the sight, sound and motion power of television to deliver the Catholic Christian perspective on everyday life issues with people of all faiths. Fr. Manning will share his experiences on using broadcast media to make a difference in our everyday world. The Catholics@Work breakfast event will be held at Crow Canyon Country Club, 711 Silver Lake Drive, Danville, CA 94526 on Tuesday, April 10, 2007. A full buffet breakfast is served starting at 7:00am (Mass is offered at 6:30 a.m. at the same location.) Cost is $ 25 for members and $ 32 for non-members. “We strive to reach a common ground with people of all faiths while reflecting Christ’s commitment to the poor,” said Fr. Michael Manning, SVD, Founder of Wordnet Productions. Wordnet is a Catholic television ministry dedicated to bringing God’s Word to all. Wordnet has produced well over 1,000 programs, and represents a rich diversity of subjects including: Biblical spirituality, Church teaching and social justice.
The business of broadcast media is all about audiences, and with the Catholic Church being the largest Christian denomination in the world, there is a huge, untapped market in the United States of over 60 million people potentially available for Fr. Manning’s message.
“The Catholic Church abdicated its leadership position in public broadcast media when the church gave up its ownership of the TV timeslot allocated to Bishop Fulton Sheen over 40 years ago,” continued Manning. “It is time to regain leadership in the public broadcasting arena.” Interestingly, the Bishop Sheen timeslot was taken over by Robert Schuler, a master of using broadcast media to share his Christian values.”
“Not many of us think about the media as a powerful tool for spreading good news and supporting Christian values. I believe that Fr. Manning’s work with Wordnet Productions has a significant impact on people’s everyday lives,” said Ms. Alison Yount, vice president of Catholics@Work. “If Noel Coward were he alive today, I believe he’d rethink his statement, ‘Time has convinced me of one thing. Television is for appearing on, not looking at.’ I encourage all members and Catholics@Work guests to join us on April 10th to hear Fr. Manning.”
Fr. Manning can be viewed nationwide on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) on Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. PST. Catholic networks in Boston, Brooklyn, Detroit, Fresno, Scranton, Yonkers and Youngstown also present Wordnet. Fr. Manning has appeared as a guest on “Larry King Live”, “Doctor Laura”, “The Leeza Show”, “The Montel Williams Show”, “The Phil Donahue Show”, “Hard Copy”, “Helpline”, “Real People”, “The 700 Club” and “Today’s Religion”. On radio, he’s been a guest on “Religious Seekers” with Michael Levine and “Clergy on Call”. He was a regular guest on the popular radio program, “Religion on the Line” on KABC in Los Angeles. He appeared with Robert DeNiro in the film, “Guilt by Suspicion” and he will make an appearance on an upcoming new NBC show, “Identity”. He holds degrees in Philosophy and Theology plus an M.F.A. in play writing. In addition to his media work, he is a popular speaker at national and international conventions.
